Recognising Web Hosting Scams

If you search the internet for web hosting then you will find hundreds of different services offering some attractive deals. But it is also likely that you will find some false claims. Some of these could be viewed as attempts to scam the unwary. The most common ones are listed below.

Free web hosting there is actually very few of these sites that are actually free. Although you will be unlikely to be asked for money, there will be other ways in which you do have to pay. One of the main ways in which a ‘free web host’ makes money from its customers is to insist that they are allowed to place their own ads on the customer’s website. And even though this may not sound too bad, there are often times where the ads on your site will not relate in any way to the content of your site and visitors may find them inappropriate.

Web hosts that claim to offer unlimited bandwidth and unlimited storage are usually exaggerating. These claims are meant to entice customers but most of them are found to be false when the service agreement is inspected fully.

Another false claim that many web hosts make is that they can provide 99 percent uptime but again this is mostly an untrue statement. It is just so easy to make a claim like this without providing any evidence to back it up.

Some companies claim to offer a 30 day back money back guarantee, but it can be hard to actually get this money back unless you have paid by credit card.

Reviews are probably the best place to look for honest opinions of web hosts. But you can fall foul here as well as many web hosts actually pay to have positive reviews written. However you can normally recognise these as they will sound too good to be true. The best way of finding out reliable reviews is to speak to people you know or join an online discussion group. But if you want something more concrete, you should completely familiarise yourself with the service agreement to make sure that the web hosts claims are in this document too.

When you decide to go into internet marketing, you should make sure that you have web hosting sorted out. But the world of web hosting can be confusing. An example of this could be coming across reseller web hosting or even linux web hosting while searching different options.
