FAQ: How to setup a Refer-A-Friend Link for an Email Marketing Campaign
Jimmy Daly asked us on our Facebook Page, “How can I add a “Forward to a Friend” link in my emails?” The goal of this type of link is to promote the email campaign someone is in already to recommend a friend join the campaign. Generally speaking, this is much riskier for email deliverability because the person receiving the email didn’t give permission for it. The best way to set this up is to have a confirmed opt-in model: [Person] -» [Clicks Link] -» [Enters Friend's Info] -» [Friend Reads Email with relevance to Person] -» [Clicks Double Opt In Link] -» [Receives more emails/FUP] This model works because it’s based on permission, not surprise. At the same time, it tells the person who is receiving the email who recommended they received it. HOW TO IMPLEMENT THIS REFER A FRIEND FORM: 1. Setup a Web Form a. Start with a First Name + Email b. Add a Custom Field for Referring Friend c. Rename the Fields to your liking. d. Setup the actions to tag the people with “Do Not Email” (this will be used later throughout your email marketing campaigns IF the don’t confirm their subscription.) e. Setup an Email Confirmation Message w/ a Double Opt In Link. Use the Merge Fields to personalize the message so it sound warm and inviting. f. Save. 2. Setup the Double Opt In Link Actions so it removes the “Do Not Email” tag and starts the appropriate Follow-Up Sequence. 3. Test! Test the sequence out to confirm it works correctly. —– Got a question? Tweet us: @INFUSIONSOFT or post it …
