One of the things that has grown faster than Bill’s business are income predictions concerning it.  I was involved actively as an Amway distributor from 2002-2005, and during this time I travelled to several major events where Bill was a keynote speaker.  Never surrounding any other person have I heard more ridiculous income estimates (upwards of $300 million per year, as some claimed).  (As a brief note – I am not in any way involved with the Amway corporation today, and this can in no way be construed as an income claim – I’m merely reporting what I heard.)

The loyalty of Bill Britt’s Amway team is unsurpassed in the MLM profession.  I went to an event in 2005 called F.E.D. (Free Enterprise Day) where Bill was speaking.  As Bill Britt spoke, the room was silenced with one of the most persuasive speeches I have ever heard.  He was revered as an icon by everyone there – almost like I imagine the pharaohs of ancient Egypt were worshiped – it was EXTREMELY interesting to watch from a detached perspective.  I think he talked more about religion and politics than he did about Amway, which didn’t surprise me that much because I had been going to Amway events for 3 years – and they all do that.

The methods used by Bill in building his business are those of traditional Network Marketing – Home Meetings, Hotel Meetings, and Weekend Events.  Primarily, the foundation for his business was laid in the late 60′s.

In addition to his Amway business, Bill Britt also has one of the largest and most profitable personal development companies in the world, called Britt Worldwide.  Britt Worldwide distributes seminars, tapes, books, cds and coaching to millions of entrepreneurs in the Amway organization.  Estimates at his income from his personal development tool business range up to 90% of Bill’s total income.

Bill Britt belongs to a world of the past – he preaches a godly government, limited government intervention in our personal lives, family values above all else – and oh, I almost forgot that he occasionally mentions Amway.

Taking a look at Bill’s business objectively, one has to admire what he accomplished – however it seems as if a great deal of his business strategies have become out dated over the last 15 years, and his Amway business went through a time of struggle.  This is because of not adapting 1970′s strategies to a space age marketplace.

When I was in Amway, the team growth strategy seemed to change every week or two – and as a result it was an EXTREME struggle to grow my business – as I did not have the added advantage of being a distributor for 20 or 30 years.

I quit Amway after doing a thorough business analysis and determining that my efforts would be much more productive in a younger company with less name recognition and more room for growth.  The results have been absolutely astounding.  However, I still have great respect for Bill Britt, his organization, and their accomplishments over the last 30 years.  My biggest insight I took from getting to know Bill Britt is this:

The financial possibility of a MLM organization that is built with a strong foundation is practically limitless.

Bill Britt is truly a phenomenon in the business world – and we should recognize him for his accomplishments as fellow entrepreneurs in Network Marketing.
